Carolyn – Cooking in Flip Flops

Hi, I’m Carolyn.  Thanks for stopping by to visit.  Please make yourself at home and stay a while.

Growing up in Houston, Texas, I quickly learned that food is about family gatherings and Southern comfort.  I’m a home cook with many years of experience and I love to make easy, simple and yummy comfort food and trying new recipes.  I’m kind of an eccentric foodie and will try any new food….alligator, shark, chicken foot….just kidding about that one, I really didn’t eat that chicken foot.  Friends have finally gotten used to me eating from the street vendors in Belize…but I don’t see the problem.  Do you?

Many of my recipes come from church/ Jr. League cookbooks and friends/ family and since I’m always exchanging and sharing recipes…what better way to share than this!

I’m an empty nester living a good, fun, simple life in the Heights Historical area of Houston with a man I adore and 2 sweet cats, Jax & Libby (the cats are SO happy that they always bring us ‘gifts’ …yikes!)  …and yes, they run the house, not me… I just have the kitchen.  But, it’s a great kitchen and it’s the heart and soul of our home.

We love to travel to many far away places, but I probably adore the Caribbean the most…just plop me down on some pretty white sand beach with aqua blue water and a bucket of beer…and I am SO good to go.  Well, Tuscany is pretty fantastic too…

I love to garden and grow lots of fresh herbs and some veggies.  We have also turned our backyard into a tropical oasis that we both enjoy.

I love, love, love to entertain and I have the dishes and platters to prove it!!  A girl cannot have too many sets of dishes or flip flops.  Trust me on this one.  There’s not much I enjoy more than having a houseful of people over and cooking for them all….crazy at times, but I still love it!  Lots of wine at the dinner table with friends is perfecto to me.

Anyone  enters our home, leaves as a family member.  That’s just how it is in the South.

And as always, I am cooking in flip flops.  Seriously….
